Eleven members of the Calshot Flyers Windsurfing Club (run by Drew from ActionVan and other committee members), sailed a total of 70.8 nautical miles, the equivalent of sailing around the Isle of Wight and a bit more, in aid of Windsurfing for Cancer Research (W4CR).
It was a lovely sunny evening with a light south westerly breeze with the tide dropping, making it a challenge to keep up wind. The course was 0.3 nautical miles long and the team of 11 windsurfers completed a total of 236 laps between them.
The Club donated the session fees for the evening and sold some wrist bands raising just in excess of £100.00 for the Charity, which was set up in March 2009 to increase awareness and to raise funds for cancer research, support and education. The Charity is aiming to raise £100,000 from their Sunrise Sunset 2011 campaign.
Calshot Flyers windsurfing club, for 8-18 year olds, is based at Calshot Activities Centre. It meets Mondays and Wednesdays every other week. It is an RYA Team 15 Club.
