The storms held off, the 5 mile course on the picturesque River Hamble was set and registration began.
The event and the sport of SUP was heavily advertised on Wave 105 FM in previous weeks but still as always that unknown element of SUP-ers willing to take on the challenge was a mystery.
We were not let down, the vans started rolling in stacked high with race boards, including a surprise late entry from top UK SUP star Ryan James.
The race was open to all, with youngsters, seasoned paddlers and first timers all taking part. Even Michael and Gloria from Wave, who only completed their BSUPA Level 1 ‘Ready to Ride’ course a couple of weeks ago were on the start line.
Taster sessions were also on offer run by the ever-enthusiastic Captain Jack (what would we do without him!)
The race began with a flying start for some, with the winner Ryan James completing the course in just over half an hour even after giving everyone a minutes head start.
