An EXCELLENT Time!
AV SUP Club headed to HMS Excellent for a weekend of introducing SUPing to HMS Collingwood’s Phase II trainees. Organised by club member, ex CPOWEM(O) Jack Hobbs and with demo boards provided by Red Paddle.
Saturday saw Karl (Jack) and Martin taking out 25 trainees throughout the course of the day, with the afternoon session resulting in a paddle around Whale Island.
Sunday morning, able assistants Drew & Mary and a group of newcomers set out in the Harbour, the aim of the day was to train for the final races in the afternoon. After pottering round HMS Bristol the group took to sprint dashes but with the windier conditions and choppy seas this proved taxing for some!
Over lunch teams were selected and the races began, with 4 heats followed by the final; the attached photos say it all !!
Well, a tiring but enjoyable weekend, thanks to Martin for his help on Saturday, Red Paddle for the loan of boards and to the Phase II staff of HMS Collingwood for making us welcome.
Of all the water based activities taking place over the weekend, SUPing seemed the most popular a good advert for the sport.
